Chinese Arts & Crafts Special Exhibition: “LIFE IN ITS MANY FORMS: Ink Paintings of Figure
Chinese Arts & Crafts proudly presents our latest exhibition, “LIFE IN ITS MANY FORMS: Ink Paintings of Figure”. It showcases the distinctive styles of two renown Chinese ink painting masters, Shan Baiqin and Ma Hansong. Both of them have studied Chinese classics, therefore engaging well-known characters from legends and poetry in their lively artworks.
Compared to the vast and tranquil landscapes of traditional Chinese landscape painting, the charm of figurative paintings lies in the portrayal of characters through lines and brushwork. A well-done figurative painting has a captivating allure, and the exceptional piece can actually take the canvas in a single stroke. Stories and characters in Shan and Ma’s works are frequently depicted in concrete terms and connected to one’s daily lives. Their brushworks are expressive, free, and competent, displaying a wide variety of variants.
The exhibition features more than 30 notable pieces by Shan Baiqin and Ma Hansong, masters at capturing figures from poetry and old legends. With a blend of beauty and inventiveness, the painters integrate traditional ink painting techniques with cutting-edge approaches to show a wide range of Chinese figures, lifestyles, and customs. From now until November 8th, visitors are cordially welcomed to view this outstanding exhibition at Chinese Arts & Crafts Gallery.
